What to Expect From Reiki

Every person responds to Reiki differently. In the sessions I’ve offered so far, most clients describe their experience as calming and positive. Many notice a release of tension, a deeper sense of presence, feelings of lightness, smiling without realising it, and leaving the session feeling more energised and at ease.

For some people, the experience can feel a little more challenging. This doesn’t mean anything has gone wrong, it simply reflects that deeper layers are beginning to shift. Reiki works gently, but it can bring long-held emotions, stress, or patterns to the surface so they can be acknowledged and released.

The more open you are to surrendering, accepting, and allowing the process to unfold, the smoother this process tends to feel. Letting go happens in layers and at your own pace. Reiki meets you exactly where you are.

If you experience any discomfort or emotional or physical symptoms during or after a session, please don’t feel discouraged. These responses are often temporary and can be a sign that your body and energy are recalibrating. Continuing with additional sessions can help support this process and gently clear what has been carried for a long time.
Detox (Clearing) Symptoms
Some people may experience what are commonly referred to as detox or clearing symptoms. These occur when the body and energy field begin releasing stored tension, emotions, or energetic build-up. These reactions are possible, not guaranteed, and many clients experience little to no discomfort at all.

Possible symptoms may include:

-
Strong emotions such as anger, sadness, worry, fear, or irritability
-
Mood swings
-
Cold, flu-like symptoms or mild fever
-
Nausea or digestive changes (including diarrhea)
-
Fatigue or low energy
-
Restlessness
-
Joint or muscle aches
-
Skin reactions such as itching or rashes
-
Dizziness or light-headedness
-
Changes in sleep patterns, including insomnia
These symptoms are simply signs that the healing process has been gently activated, often through stimulation of the immune and energetic systems. If they do occur, they are temporary and will gradually settle as the body rebalances. In more noticeable cases, symptoms typically do not last longer than 21 days and often resolve much sooner.

If you experience anything that feels unusual, uncomfortable, or concerning during or after a session, please reach out and ask questions. Open communication is important, and support is always available.
Supporting Your Body Through the Process

There are several gentle ways to support yourself after a session:

-
Increase your water intake after your session to help flush toxins and support the cleansing process
-
Eat nourishing, whole foods and limit processed foods where possible
-
Express emotions in healthy and safe ways
-
Be mindful of negative thought patterns or draining environments
-
Rest when needed and treat yourself with kindness
-
Spend time in quiet, peaceful spaces
-
Sit outside in fresh air or nature if you can

Listening to your body and giving it what it needs is an important part of healing.
A Gentle Reminder

Transformation doesn’t happen through force — it happens through willingness. Healing is a process, and sometimes it begins with awareness and small shifts.

Please don’t let the possibility of detox symptoms discourage you. Many people experience none at all, and for those who do, they are temporary and manageable. Your mind, body, and soul will thank you for taking this step toward balance and wellbeing
