What to Expect
Initial Consultation

For your first session, please plan to arrive 10–15 minutes early. This allows us time to settle in, go over the session process, and answer any questions you may have so you can feel comfortable and relaxed before we begin.

Further Consultations

One session is a wonderful introduction to Reiki and gives you the opportunity to notice how your body and mind respond and to see whether you feel more relaxed, clearer, or simply more at ease.

Many clients choose to continue with a series of sessions to gently and progressively support their ongoing wellbeing goals. Reiki works in layers, and regular sessions can help maintain balance and encourage deeper, lasting shifts over time.
I recommend reading through the Possible Side Effects section so you are informed and know what to expect, even though many people experience little to no discomfort at all.

Medical Considerations

If you have an acute medical condition and haven’t already done so, please seek advice from a licensed medical professional as soon as possible. For chronic or ongoing concerns, Reiki can be a valuable and supportive complement to your existing health or wellness plan. Reiki is designed to work alongside medical care, not replace it.

What Happens During the Session

Your session takes place in a softly lit room with gentle music and subtle, refreshing essences to help relax both your body and mind. During your first session, I usually communicate with you throughout the treatment, sharing what comes through as I work. Occasionally, if your nervous system feels overstimulated and your body is asking for quiet, I will allow silence and write down any insights instead. Your comfort always comes first.

First sessions often bring through a lot of information like insight into life patterns, emotional blocks, or experiences that may have contributed to feeling stuck or disconnected. Many clients describe these sessions as deeply meaningful, offering clarity and understanding that helps them move forward with greater ease and confidence.

Depending on the individual, themes such as past experiences, emotional patterns, or long-held fears may surface gently for awareness and release. Some people leave feeling lighter, calmer, and more hopeful, while others may feel tired or experience mild flu-like symptoms as their body adjusts and releases stored tension. All responses are normal and part of the healing process.

Please feel free to speak up at any time during your session if you have questions, concerns, or need anything adjusted. I want your experience to feel safe, supportive, and as comfortable as possible. I also welcome hearing about how you’re feeling during or after the session.

What Does Reiki Feel Like?

During Reiki, my hands may feel very warm or even hot. You might notice sensations such as tingling, warmth, gentle movement, or deep relaxation, or you may not feel much at all. There is no right or wrong way to experience Reiki.

Each body senses energy differently. Many clients feel calm, peaceful, and grounded, both mentally and physically. Relaxation is almost always felt afterwards. Yawning is very common, and some people feel drawn to rest or nap later in the day, often waking the next day feeling refreshed and energised.

Can I Drive After My Session?

Yes. After your session, you will be fully awake, though you may feel more relaxed and centered. A glass of water is offered at the end of your session to help you ground and return to the present moment. If you plan to leave straight away, I recommend drinking your water and taking a short, brisk walk to ensure you feel fully alert before driving.

After Your Session: Gentle Aftercare

If possible, I recommend keeping the rest of the day light and restful, though I understand this isn’t always achievable. Some supportive aftercare suggestions include:

-
Drink plenty of warm or room-temperature water to support hydration and gentle detoxification
-
Avoid caffeine if possible
-
Be kind and gentle with yourself — in your thoughts, words, and actions
-
Rest if you can, or go to bed earlier than usual
-
If returning to work, a short 10-minute power nap during a break can be helpful
-
Spend some quiet time reflecting or journaling — insights or patterns may naturally surface
Health & Practical Questions

Are there any medical conditions where I should not receive Reiki?
Reiki is a gentle, complementary practice and works alongside medical care. It supports — but does not replace — the care of your primary health providers.

If I have the flu or a contagious illness, should I attend a session?
No. Please wait until you are feeling well and are no longer contagious before booking a session, out of care for both of us.
Can you have too much Reiki?
No. Reiki works in harmony with your body’s energy and only flows where needed. That said, I recommend allowing at least a week between sessions, so your body has time to integrate and recalibrate. You’ll naturally know when it’s time to return by listening to your body.

Your energy system is always in control, and it receives exactly what it needs, much like breathing - Nothing is forced.
